LSJ - Week 17

Locks

The first lock is the Dallas Cowboys will miss the playoffs finishing the year 1-4 in December and January?  Why?  Because they don't know any different.  I'm not sure the team is strong enough mentally to overcome missed field goals, blocked field goals, and 12 point leads with 5 minutes to go.  The game will be close, and I will be screaming at the TV, if only in my head because I can't wake the kids...Giants kill my New Years, 34 - 31.

The Saints beat the Panthers trying to lock up the #1 seed in the NFC.  They also have some records they will want to break, and you may have heard that Cam Newton is playing in the game and beat the Saints the first time around.  I don't see this happening, I got the Saints winning 38 - 31.

Shock

The first shock is the Jets over the Dolphins.  They Jets are still playoff eligible, before the games start anyway, but they need help from like half the league.  Since they have Rex as their coach I can't see them giving up, especially because they are the noon kickoff.  The Jets win a wild game with the Dolphins (aren't all Jets v. Dolphins games wild?) 24 - 23.

The second shock of the week is Chargers beating the Raiders in the last week of the season.  Norvel will be trying to save his job...again...but more importantly than that is the Chargers are hot right now and the Raiders aren't.  Chargers win 23 - 20.

Jocks

The first jock is obvious, Drew Brees 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.  I think that is all he knows how to do this year.

The second jock is Eli Manning who will torch the Dallas defense for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Happy New Year everyone and enjoy the final games of the regular season.  Chris and Matt SHOULD be back Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m. eastern at www.blogtalkradio.com/sidelinershow

LSJ - Tofurkey Day

Locks

There are two locks this Thanksgiving Day...okay three, but we all know Chris will have to get sweatpants by nightfall because he ate too much.  The first NFL lock of the week is the Packers over the Lions.  Oh finally Detroit has a chance on Thanksgiving Day, they finally have a team!!  And this year they get the undefeated Green Bay Packers.  Detroit isn't as good as it started, or maybe as lucky.  But the real difference is the pass rush.  If they put the pressure to Rodgers they may have a chance, but even with pressure I don't think they have the DB's to match the weapons of the Packers.   You have a lot to be thankful for this year Detroit, its just a win on Turkey Day won't be one of them.  Packers win 31 - 20.

Dallas is the other lock of the week. The Dolphins have won three in a row, and so has Dallas.  But I think the Cowboys have more talent and that should be enough.  Should is the key word, if the good Cowpokes show up it could look a lot like the Bills game.  If bad Romo shows up it could be a squeaker like last week.  Either way I've got the 'Boys ruling the day and helping me have a great Thanksgiving night.  Dallas wins 27 - 13.

Shocks

The battle of the Harbaugh's is great for ESPN and NFL Network, but I'm not sure it really matters.  Unless you are listening to ESPN radio today or tomorrow.  Baltimore has a good team most weeks, but then they can lay some real clunkers.  (see Jacksonville).  The 49ers keep winning, except against Dallas, and I think they will again tonight.  Baltimore should win, but that's why they play the games!!  Good matchup, but the 9ers win 23 - 20.

Jocks

QB's rule the day for jocks.  I've got Aaron Rodgers throwing for 300 yards and two scores against Detroit and Romo throwing for 275 and two scores against the fins.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!  More picks this Sunday and don't forget to tune in Tuesday night as Chris and Matt discuss the week that was in the NFL and whatever else they want too!!

LSJ - Week 8

Locks

The first lock of the week is the Chargers over the Chiefs.  I'm not sure who the Chiefs have been channelling the past couple of weeks, but I'm pretty sure it won't work this week.  The Chiefs have a nice little win streak going and the Chargers record is better than it has been at this point in the season before, but they don't look like the San Diego Chargers.  So with the logic the Chiefs are playing great and the Chargers aren't, the Chargers win 24 - 17.

The second lock of the week is Patriots over the Steelers.  The Steelers haven't looked like the Steelers of the past, especially on defense and the Patriots have shown they can score.  The Pats D will do just enough and Brady will do more than just enough to have the Pats win 23 - 20.

Shocks

The first shock of the week is the Boys over the Eagles.  I have thought long and hard about this one, it really depends on which QB shows up for each team.  But to me this game is all about the front 7 on defense.  The Cowboys have a better front 7 and will generate good pressure on Vick which is necessary to beat the Eagles.  The Eagles are horrible against the run and the Cowboys may have found something in Murray.  The Cowboys in on the road 27 - 24.

The second shock of the week is the Colts over the Titans.  I know they got run out of the stadium last week, but I'm not sold on the Titans.  Johnson hasn't run like Chris Johnson and they don't have Britt anymore.  The Colts will win a game this year, and why not this one.  The Colts win 17 - 13.

Jocks

The first jock of the week is Arian Foster.  The Jags won't have two great weeks in a row so Foster will run for 125 yards and a touchdown.

The second jock is Wes Welker.  He is the primary receiver of Brady and against the Steelers that's good enough for me.  Welker catches a TD pass and gains 125 yards receiving.

LSJ - Week 6

Locks

The first lock of the week is New York Jets over the Miami Dolphins.  The Dolphins have lost their starting quarterback for the year, who wasn't very good, and now have to rely on a backup that is even worse.  It would appear the Fins are at the head of the line for Andrew Luck.  That cause will be helped today as the Jets get back to .500 with a 20 - 6 win.

The second lock of the week is Bears over the Vikings.  The Vikings have looked deplorable some weeks and looked like an actual NFL team for a half on other weeks.  McNabb is over the hill and finished...but didn't we learn that last year when he was in Washington?  The Bears aren't great, but they will be good enough to beat their divisional rivals at home 23 - 17.

Shocks

The first shock is the Giants are favored over the Bills.  I'm not jumping on the band wagon of the Bills just yet, but no one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.  I don't even know what that means, but I've heard Chris Berman say it so many times, I figured I'd try it out.  The Bills excel at creating turnovers and the Giants excel at turning the ball over.  Sounds like a match made in heaven for the circling wagons of the Bills.  They win on the road 31 - 27.

The second shock will be the Cowboys winning on the road against the Patriots.  That's right, Chris will be crying on his wings this afternoon and singing GaGa on Tuesday night.  Which Romo shows up is key for Dallas, and the Patriots defense blows so with good Romo showing up the Boys get a much needed victory on the road 31 - 30.

Jocks

Tom Brady will throw a lot, because thats what the Patriots do.  The Cowboys D hasn't been that great against the pass so Brady will throw for 300 yards and two touchdowns.

Drew Brees will also throw a lot, because thats also what he likes to do.  Unfortunately for the Saints they play the Bucs who have a decent defense and will "hold" Brees to a 275 yard and 2 touchdown game.

Listen Tuesday night as Chris will serenade Matt with Lady Gaga's You and I because the Pats go down at home.  We are live at 10:00 p.m. eastern on www.blogtalkradio.com/sidelinershow

LSJ - Week 4

Locks

The first lock of the week is the Bucs over the Colts.  The Colts have to pin all of their hopes on Painter...yeah thats how they feel as well.  The Bucs aren't great, but they will be good enough.  The Colts lose bad 24 - 6.

The second lock of the week is the Falcons over the Seahawks.  The Falcons haven't looked like the PreSeason Super Bowl pick that I made, but its only the quarter pole.  The Falcons have a get right game this week against the Seahawks and Michael Turner will get back to running the ball.  The Falcons win 31 - 13.

Shocks

The first shock of the week is the Lions over the Cowboys.  I hate picking against the Boys, but Detroit looks for real.  What also looks for real is Stafford to Johnson, they should hook up at least twice this week.  The Lions win 31 - 20.

The second shock of the week is the Jets over the Ravens.  The Ravens handled their business week 1 against the Steelers, and the Jets stumbled last week, which is all the logic I need to pick the Jets to win 24 - 23.

Jocks

Calvin Johnson will score two touchdown on the Boys and gain 125 yards receiving.

Drew Brees will throw for 300 yards and two scores.

LSJ - Week 3

Locks

The first lock of the week is the Steelers over the Colts.  Without Manning the Colts have a slim chance, and by slim I mean next to none.  The Steelers D is too good, the offense might not be there yet for the Steelers, but luckily for them they have a "get well" game against the Colts.  The Steelers win easily 27 - 6.

The second lock of the week are the Dallas Cowboys.  I believe Romo will play this week, I don't know about Jones or Bryant, but they aren't as important as Romo.  He played three quarters hurt, and his lung is already healed.  It won't be pretty, and the Boys will have to minimize hits to Romo, but in a pick'em game I pick the Cowboys 20 - 17.

Shocks

The first shock is the Bucs are favored over the Falcons by a point.  The Falcons didn't look great against the Eagles, but they came out of it with some confidence and more importantly a W.  They keep their winning ways this afternoon with a quality road win over the Bucs 27 - 17.

The second shock of the week is the Dolphins over the Browns.  The Fins haven't shown much this year, but neither have the McCoy let Browns.  I think the Fins put it all together this Sunday and get a win over the Browns 24 - 20.

Jocks

Chris Johnson hasn't done much this year, but luckily for him the Titans play the Broncos this week.  Johnson goes for a C note this week and two scores.

The second jock is Phillip Rivers.  The Chargers play the Chiefs this year who look more like they are playing for Andrew Luck than for W's.  The Chargers win big and the only reason Rivers doesn't have more yards is because they don't have to throw.  Rivers throws for 275 and three scores on the day anyway!!

LSJ - Week 1

Locks

The first lock of the year is the season opener at the not so frozen tundra at Lambeau Field. The Packers will get their rings and a banner, oh and more importantly a W!! They are favored by 5 on ESPN.com but they aren’t going to cover against the Saints. It will be a shoot-out, but the fans will go home happy 37 – 34.

The second lock of Week 1 is on Sunday night and it PAINS me to write it. The Jets will beat the Cowboys at home Sunday night. They are playing on 9/11, in New York, what more do I have to say!! The Jets are favored by 5 according to ESPN, I’m not sure they will cover, but they will get the W 27 – 24.

A bonus lock of the week because of the two Monday night games is a gimme with the Patriots over the Dolphins. I know the Fins have played Bill’s Boys pretty good the last couple of years, but not on Monday. The Patriots are favored by 7 and they will cover. Brady and the boys win 31 – 10.

Shocks

The only shock I can see in the nationally televised games is the Raiders over the Broncos. The Donkeys are favored by three at home, but I think the Raiders will win by at least three. I think the Broncos will have trouble stopping the Oakland rushing attack. Oakland wins 20 – 17.

The second shock is Titans over the Jaguars. This shouldn’t be a shock, but ESPN.com still has the Jags favored by three over the Titans even though they cut their starting QB two days before the season starts. The Titans win 17 – 6.

Jocks

The first jock is Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers will pick up where he left off last year torching the Saints DB’s for over 275 yards and 2 scores.

The second jock is Tom Brady who will torch the Dolphins for over 300 yards and three scores.

Tune in Tuesday night to hear Chris and Matt break down the week that was in the NFL at 10:00 eastern on http://bit.ly/78Rrk.

NFL Week 14 - LS&J

Locks

This pains me in unspeakable ways, but I will have to pick the (8-4) Eagles to take down the (4-8) Cowboys on the road tonight.  The Cowboys have played way better under Jason Garrett, but Indy hanging 21 points in the 4th quarter on the Dallas D doesn't bode well with me.  Also, the Cowboys offense didn't generate a lot of points or movement on their own.  Eagles win 31 - 23.

The second lock of the week is (8-4) Ravens to beat the (5-7) Texans on the road Monday night.  I usually like road dogs but in these two picks I'm going with the favorite because the home dogs have played like well, dogs.  The Ravens D will slow down the offense of the Texans enough to take a close one in Houston 23 - 20.

Shocks

The (10-2) Patriots are on the road at the (9-3) Bears this weekend.  I'm not a huge believer in the Bears, but I am a huge believer in let down losses.  The Pats are a young team with a struggling D.  The defense turned in their best performance of the year and I don't expect them to repeat it two weeks in a row.  The Bears D has taken out a lot of quarterbacks this year, I don't expect them to take Brady out but he will get knocked around.  The Bears win 27 -24.

The second shock is the (6-6) Raiders over the (7-5) Jaguars.  I have picked the Jags to get upset several times this year and I've been wrong every time.  I think this week will be different because apparently I'm a gambler who thinks this time it will be different.  Oakland is playing tough this year and one never knows which Raider team will show up.  I'm thinking it is going to be the good one this week as they win the battle of the field goal in Jacksonville 22 - 19.

Jocks

Philip Rivers is the first jock going up against the Chiefs.  This is a must win game for the Chargers if they want to get into the playoffs.  Rivers knows this and will get (running or throwing) three touchdowns and at least 300 yards passing.  I wouldn't be shocked if he crossed the 4,000 yard mark on the year.

The second jock is Aaron Rodgers for the Packers.  He is quietly putting together quite a nice season and lucky for him he draws the Lions today.  Rodgers will throw for over 300 yards and score at least two touchdowns.  He only got 181 the first time against them, don't expect this to happen again!!

NFL Week 12 - LS&J Turkey Day Special

Game Already Started

There are 12 minutes left in the first quarter and I have no idea what has happened.  But I do know what will happen!  The Patriots will take down the Lions on the road and the woes will continue for the competitive Lions.  Pats win 31 - 17.

Locks

The (8-2) Jets are heavy favorites over the (2-8) Bengals.  The Bengals won't get it going today against the surging Jets.  Sanchez is leading 4th quarter and OT comebacks, but this week it won't be necessary.  The Jets win in a laugher, 34 - 16.

The (7-3) Saints are marching into Dallas hopefully getting Reggie Bush back against the (3-7) Cowboys.  Firing Wade is the best thing to happen to the 'Boys this year, but it won't help against the formidable Saints.  The Saints Passing will be too much against the shaky secondary for the Boys.  The Saints win a close one 27 - 24.

Jocks

Drew Brees will light up the Dallas secondary for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Getting Reggie back won't be the help it will be next week, but it really doesn't matter this week.  A weak secondary is better for Brees than a Bush back from injury.

Stay tuned for the rest of Week 11 LS&J later in the week.  Happy Turkey day!!

NFL Week - LS&J

Locks

The first lock of the week is the (5-3) Packers at home to the (1-6) Cowboys.  The Packers are favored by 9 and it shouldn't even be that close.  The Cowboys D isn't trying and the offense may be better if Kitna can throw to his own teammates.  The Packers win a laugher 31 - 10.

The second lock of the week is the (5-2) Falcons over the surprising (5-2) Buccaneers.  The Bucs have been a great story so far, but I am still liking my preseason prediction of the Falcons winning the division.  This is a great chance to take a nice lead in the division and I also think the Bucs will be coming back to earth.  Falcons win 27 - 17.

Shocks

The first shock is the (2-5) Bengals over the (5-2) Steelers.  The Bengals have a lot of talent at wide receiver but somehow this hasn't translated to a lot of yards or points.  Cedric Benson has been running decently they just haven't gotten the breaks this year.  They get them Monday night in the 'Natti as the Bengals win 20 - 17.

The second shock is the (5-2) Chiefs beating the hated (4-4) Raiders on the road.  Both teams have been surprises thus far in the NFL season.  Cassel has played much better and McFadden for the Raiders is finally living up to the potential he showed at Arkansas.  These are usually close games, but I'm picking the Chiefs on a final five minute drive kicking the winning field goal.  Chiefs 23 and the Raiders 20.

Jocks

The first jock is Drew Brees.  The Saints are playing the Panthers who don't have a whole lot going for them, except they are second on the waiver wire list.  Brees will throw for over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Saints try to get right on the road in Carolina.

The second jock is Philip Rivers of the Chargers.  The Chargers are only (3-5) but they are going against the Houston Texans secondary, which hasn't stopped much all year.  Rivers will hang 300 yards and 2 scores on the sloppy Texans D.

Remember there isn't a show this week, but Chris & Matt will return November 16 for more scintillating discussions!!

NFL Week 7 - LS&J

Locks

The first lock of the week is the (3-3) Packers beating the Vikings (2-3) Vikings. Neither team has show much this year. The Packers have injuries galore and no running game. The Vikings have talent but haven't put it together this year. They won't be able to win this week with Farve really showing his age. Maybe he should start hitting on media relations people for the Vikings...then again they are in Minnesota. Green Bay wins 27 - 20.

The second lock of the week is (4-1) Steelers over the (3-2) Dolphins at Miami. The Steel Curtain looks like it is back with a vengeance, as long as Harrison doesn't retire. Big Ben is back, for now, and while the Dolphins look decent they just don't have the weapons to deploy against the Steelers D. Pitt wins going away 24 - 10.

 Shocks

I'm not sure what is more shocking, the fact that the (1-4) Cowboys haven't won at home yet or they are favored to beat the (4-2) Giants!! They are 4 point favorites at home and I have no clue why!! The Giants will send this Cowboys fan into deeper despair winning on the road 34-31.

The second shock will be the (4-1) Patriots winning on the road over the (2-4) Chargers. The Chargers, my Preseason Super Bowl winner usually start slow. This is a REALLY slow start and show nothing of playoff form let alone championship form. The Pats will put the Bolts in a deeper hole winning 24-17.

Jocks

The first jock is Tony Romo. The Cowboys offense gets a lot of yards and since they will be behind they will have to air it out. Plus, Romo will have to pass more because of all the penalties the team gets. Romo will throw for over 300 yards and 3 tds.

The second jock will be Kyle Orton. That's right, Orton. Who would have thought Denver would be chucking the ball all over the field like its nothing. This week they play the Raiders at home and I fully expect a full air assault. Orton will throw for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Tune in this Tuesday night to hear Chris & Matt discuss the week that was in the NFL at 10:00 eastern at www.blogtalkradio.com/sidelinershow!!

LS&J Playoff Style - Divisional Weekend

Arizona at New Orleans

Arizona is coming off a shootout win over the Green Bay Packers last Sunday night.  The highest scoring game in playoff history taught us one thing, if Arizona’s defense doesn’t show up again this week the Cardinals playoff run will be over.  Shootouts are fun to watch, but not so much for defensive coordinators.  Aaron Rodgers is a pretty good quarterback, but Drew Brees right now is even better.  New Orleans struggled down the stretch losing their last three.  That streak ends tonight in New Orleans as the Saints will go marching up and down all over the 11 players alledgedly playing defense.  The Saints win 30-20.

The player to watch in this game will be my supposed “man crush” Drew Brees.  If he throws for 300 yards and three touchdowns the Saints will not lose.  Pierre Thomas will play tonight and do just enough to keep the Cards D honest with the run.  Brees will manipulate the safety’s and hit the open man, rust schmust.

Baltimore at Indianapolis

Ahh the latest Baltimore team against the original team from Baltimore.  Grudge match.  Rematch.  That’s right the two teams met in Indianapolis in Week 11. The Colts won a squeaker 17-15, allowing Baltimore 5 field goals.  Baltimore will have to score touchdowns to win this game, and I do expect a close game considering how Baltimore’s D demolished Chris’ Patriots last week.  Also, because Peyton and the offense could show rust early in the game since they haven’t played meaningful minutes since early December.  The Fightin Peyton’s will be too much for Baltimore this week, the Colts will win a squeaker 20-17.

The player to watch this week is again Ray Rice.  He is the Raven’s offense, and he must get it going against the Colts D to keep Baltimore in the game.  Peyton has had some of his worst days against Baltimore, he will be good enough but not great.  Rice will run for 100, catch for 50, and score at least one touchdown.  A nice day at the office, but not good enough.

Dallas at Minnesota

To me, this is the toughest game to pick.  The teams seem to be matched pretty evenly with Minnesota getting a slight edge because they are playing at home.  But being the homer I am, I can’t pick against the Cowboys.  Especially the way that D is playing right now.  Romo’s record on the road is better than at home in December and January so there’s another good sign.  I look for the Cowboys to put a lot of pressure on Favre forcing him into some bad decisions.  Also, look for Adrian Peterson to have at least one fumble.  The Cowboys win in the last two minutes, 24-23.
The player to watch in this one is Adrian Peterson.  He will be what keeps Minnesota in the game.  Dallas hasn’t played a running back like him all year, speed and strength.  Peterson will rush for 125 yards and two touchdowns.  Ultimately, it will be his one fumble problems that end the season early for the Vikes.

New York at San Diego

The Jets are riding high, playing themselves into the playoffs then delivering the goods once arriving.  Well, the J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS, will L-O-S-E LOSE, LOSE, LOSE this weekend against the stronger Chargers.  The Bolts have won 11 in a row, and against some pretty good teams.  Phillip Rivers is showing he is an elite quarterback and he will lead the Chargers against the best D in the league.  The Chargers haven’t been held under 20 this season.  The lowest they scored was 20 at Dallas in December.  I don’t think the Jets will be able to put enough points on the board to offset the Chargers offense.  The Chargers win 27-17.

The player to watch in this matchup is Antonio Gates.  Revis and Jackson will be a great matchup, but that will leave Gates to pickup any slack for Jackson’s lower productivity.  Norv will find the week spots in the Jets D that will allow for Gates to catch the ball in the soft spots.  Expect the big tight end to have 8 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.

That’s the playoff’s this week, tune in Tuesday night at 10:00 pm eastern to see how we did, plus more.  Catch the podcast on iTunes or live Tuesday night at www.blogtalkradio.com/sidelinershow .

LS&J Playoff Style - Wild Card Weekend

For Wild Card Weekend we will do something different for LS&J.  I am going to pick the winners for all four games and then a player to watch.

Jets @ Bengals

In the first of three rematches from Week 17, the Jets meet the Bengals.  The Bengals were 6-2 at home and the Jets were 5-3 on the road.  The Jets dismantled the Bengals in Week 17, but I don’t think the Bengals were properly motivated.  What did they have to play for?  I think the Bengals will have a chip on their shoulders after losing to the Jets BAD last week on national television.  The Bengals will win 23-17 over the Jets.

The player to watch is Cedric Benson.  All eyes may be on the Chad Ochocinco and Darrelle Revis matchup but in really matters how Cincy runs the ball.  If they can get Cedric going then maybe Chad might catch a ball or two.  If they don’t it could be a long afternoon for Ochocinco and Co.  I think Cedric will run for a C Note and have a score to boot.

Eagles @ Cowboys

The next matchup is another matchup from Week 17.  But not only is this a rematch, it is a divisional rivalry.  Dallas embarrassed Philly by shutting them out, but Dallas’s D won’t score it’s third shutout in a row.  Wade has the D hitting on all cylinders and Romo just had the best year of any Dallas quarterback, and Dallas has had more than it’s share of hall of famer’s at the position.  Dallas will beat Philly for the third time this year, but it will come down to the last five minutes of the game.  Cowboys 27 and the Eagles 23.

The players to watch are DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, and Anthony Spencer.  These guys HAVE to get pressure on McNabb if Dallas is going to win it’s third straight over Philly and get the first playoff win since 1996.  Ware didn’t record a sack last week but Ratliff got two.   These guys will get 5 sacks on McNabb or force him into a bad pass resulting in an interception.  A Dallas win will be on the back of the D.

Ravens @ Patriots

New England just hasn’t been the New England we have all come to expect over the past several years.  And it only got worse when Wes Welker went down with a knee injury last week and will miss the playoffs.  The Pats looked bad earlier this year when Welker was out.  Welker caught 120 passes from Brady, and that’s with missing three games.  Brady lost his favorite target, and the Ravens will make sure New England loses the game.  Baltimore look to put pressure on Brady and shutting down Moss will be easier with no Welker.  Baltimore wins 24-20.
The player to watch is Ray Rice.  Baltimore is still a run first team and the running starts and ends with Rice.  Ray will run for 100 yards and score at least two touchdowns.  One of his TD’s may be receiving because Flacco also likes to throw to him, he’s the leading receiver with 78 receptions.  For the Ravens to win, Rice will have a big day, count on it.

Packers & Cardinals

The last of the grudge matches happens in the desert Sunday night.  The Packers are the team no one wants to play and the Cardinals are looking for an identity.  Warner looks like the Warner of New York and not the Warner of the Rams, which is not good news for Cardinal fans.  Also, with Anquan Boldin doubtful to play in Sunday’s game there is only one team to take.  The Packers will win going away 38-24.

The player to watch is Aaron Rodgers.  He had a great year throwing for over 4,400 hards with 30 TD’s and only 7 pics.  Rodgers will throw for over 300 yards and multiple touchdowns in a laugher in the desert.  Grant will keep the defense honest while Rodgers makes the big plays, sorry Arizona, just be glad you broke the Super Bowl Loser hex.

Tune in Tuesday at 10:00 pm eastern, for Chris and Matt discussion of the pics and the week that was in the NFL and more.  Listen live at www.blogtalkradio.com/sidelinershow

LS&J for Week 14

Locks

Four weeks left in the NFL season and December is heating up!  The first lock of the week is the Colts to beat the Broncos.  Denver’s D is much better this year, but the Colts are ulmost unbeatable at home. The Colts will lose a game this year, but it won’t be against Denver.  Denver will probably have Bailey on Wayne all game, and Indy doesn’t have a running game to speak of, but Peyton is Peyton and Orton is Orton.  The Fighting Mannings take down Denver 20 - 13.

The second lock of the week is the Packers over the Bears.  The Bears are sill missing Brian Urlacher and the Pack are on a roll.  Brian Grant will help control the clock and the ball and Rodgers will pick apart the Bears secondary.  While this is a rivalry game, I don’t expect much of a game when the fourth quarter rolls around.  The Packers 31 and the Bears 17.

Shocks

The first shock is the Bengals will upset the Vikings at home today.  The Bengals D will stop Peterson and Favre will turn into the Farve of the past several years and throw a couple of interceptions.  Carson Palmer won’t have a stellar day, but he will make the plays necessary and Cedric Benson will show why the Bengals picked him up off the scrap heap and cross the thousand yard mark for the season.  Bengals 24 and the Vikings 20.

The second shock is the Chargers over the Cowboys.  This would have been a lock pick had the Chargers been favored.  Dallas gets three points for being at home, unfortunately December means more than home field advantage in this one.  Dallas needs to make a statement and prove they are a playoff worthy team, but it won’t be this week.  Rivers and Co will roll in Dallas 31 - 24.

Jocks

Drew Brees is the first jock not only because he will become the first quarterback this season to throw 30 touchdowns, but he will creep up on the 4,000 yard mark for the season.  I don’t see him throwing for 470 yards, but 300 is about right with multiple touchdowns.  After a scare in DC last week, this will be a statement game against a divisional opponent.

The second jock will be Philip Rivers.  The Dallas secondary has one of the highest completion percentages against them on third down.  Rivers is too good of a quarterback to let him be completing passes when they need them most.  Rivers will connect with Gates in the middle of the field and have a great day in Dallas.  Rivers will throw for 300 yards and multiple touchdowns as the Chargers rock on.

Tune in Tuesday night to see how the picks turned out and how LS&J is doing so far this year.  www.blogtalkradio.com/sidelinershow 10:00 p.m. eastern.

Locks, Shocks, & Jocks - Week 3

This post was written Friday night but due to technical difficulties wasn't posted.  The games have already started and I didn't change anything, and maybe I should have!!  Here it is anyways!!!

It’s time for Week 3’s installment of Locks, Shocks, & Jocks. The crack research team went on vacation this week so hopefully the picks will be better. Week 3 Locks are Indianapolis and Dallas. Indy travels to the desert to face the Cardinals who are coming off their first win of the year after beating Jacksonville like a government mule. Indy is coming off a win over Miami on Monday night where the offense seemingly never had the ball. Look for Indy’s quick strikes to continue and turn the game into a shootout. I give the edge to Indy because of the “Peyton Factor.” Indy wins 41-38.
